Thank you for your interest in introducing our customers to your work! We are happy to host local authors and artisans here at McKay Used Books in Manassas, Virginia. These events are generally held on the first Saturday of the month as a meet ‘n greet for the local author and our customers. We provide a space outside the front door, where the authors can greet customers as they enter and exit the store. There is no charge for this opportunity, but the author must have a reserved date and time slot prearranged with McKay management.

Starting Fall of 2025, Author Events will be held for multiple authors on the first Saturday of most months. We will begin hosting more than one author per weekend to encourage cross-promotion between the authors.

Terms & Conditions

1. Be aware that you are the first thing our customer will see as they come to our door – you must maintain a welcoming demeanor, and a neat, visually appealing, display. You must maintain a positive attitude regarding McKay’s and our policies while representing us. 
2. You must obtain a reservation for the space and time, including approval of the items to be sold, by management at least one week prior to the event. 
3. Promote the event on your personal and professional social media accounts, tagging @McKayUsedBooksVA. We require that you post at least one week prior to, one day prior to, and on the day of, the event. 
4. Like, comment, and share on the social media posts about your event that are posted on McKay Used Books’ social media accounts. 
5. Provide your own means of collecting payment for items sold.
6. Provide your own chair and table (up to 3’x6’).
7. Be mindful of patrons on the sidewalk, leaving a comfortable amount of space for passers-by. 
8. Be flexible and accommodating to our management team on the day of the event as they work with you to make the event as successful as possible. 
9. Please provide any flyers or handouts, as well as your social media handles, one week prior to the event – flyers and handouts must be professional in appearance and content (DIY is fine). 

Failure to adhere to these terms will result in the rejection of your request to hold an event at McKay Used Books, up to and including the day of the event itself. We reserve the right to decline anyone for any reason.
